Microwave oven uses microwave to cook and heat food. Microwave is an electromagnetic wave. 

Uses of microwave oven.

It is used for simple cooking, reheating , grilling and baking. Here reheating means cooking the food again fully. Grilling is a process of applying dry heat to the surface of the food through the outer portions of the same. This gives the eatables (meat etc.) a special flavour. Similarly baking involves applying dry heat to the food.

Advantages.

It helps in fast cooking without change in the taste or its nourishment. It helps in cleaning oven easily. Defrosting of frozen food is possible.

Disadvantages.

It results in the formation of dry food. Some safety issues can be associated with ,it  particularly when the oven is damaged, due to radiation.It cannot be used for deep frying.

Types.

Solo which could be used for simple cooking. This is basic one used for applying heat uniformly. Hence it cannot grill or bake the food. Grill type which can reheat and grill in addition to normal cooking. Convection which can be used for baking in addition to reheating and grilling and normal cooking.
